So, this thread is to discuss the viability and possible builds of The Rock, a deck from old Extended that I have attempted to port over to Modern.
Typically, there are two different types of builds, straight B/G and B/G/w with Knight of the Reliquary (most, if not all, builds have a B/G shell). What ever color combination most tickles your fancy, The Rock universally focuses on an attrition war that ends with the player cutting off his opponent's resources via Death Cloud. You typically have better resources to rebuild from a huge Death Cloud because of Garruk Wildspeaker, Kitchen Finks, and Life from the Loam, also, Sakura-Tribe Elder provides a blocker and some very important mana acceleration. Post Death Cloud, your win conditions are manlands, Garruk Wildspeaker, and the Tarmogoyf.
Here's the list I'm toying around with:
Lands: 23
1 Dryad Arbor
2 Forest
1 Ghost Quarter
3 Golgari Rot Farm
1 Marsh Flats
1 Misty Rainforest
1 Murmuring Bosk
2 Overgrown Tomb
3 Swamp
3 Treetop Village
1 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
4 Verdant Catacombs
Creatures: 11
1 Eternal Witness
2 Kitchen Finks
4 Sakura-Tribe Elder
4 Tarmogoyf
Enchantments: 4
4 Bitterblossom
Instants: 2
2 Go for the Throat
Planeswalkers: 3
3 Garruk Wildspeaker
Sorceries: 17
2 Crime // Punishment
3 Death Cloud
4 Life from the Loam
1 Green Sun's Zenith
3 Maelstrom Pulse
4 Thoughtseize
If anyone has a Knight of the Reliquary build, I can edit this to include that.
Aaaaaaand.... GO!
The Rock

Seems like a very interesting deck. Have you done any testing with it?

The only testing I have with it is against other decks I've created because we don't have any format coverage or anything like that for Modern yet. I've made (probably bad versions of) UW StoneBlade, Zoo, and a Mono-Brown deck and tested against that.

I hope the Community Cup sheds some more light on a possible metagame to test against.

This beats Hypergenesis how? 4x Thoughtsieze isn't enough. With that card not being currently banned, you will see a lot of Hypergenesis in Modern.

You're right. When I made this deck, it was pre-CC and I did not take into account Hypergenesis.
